How to use clotrimazole 500mg pessary and clotrimazole 1% cream

Here is how you should use the clotrimazole 500mg pessary and clotrimazole 1% cream:

  1. At night before you go to sleep, wash the area around your vagina with lukewarm or cool water and pat it dry. Avoid hot water as it can make the area feel sore.
  2. Wash your hands with warm soap and water, then open the clotrimazole 500mg pessary box. Take out the long, thin plastic applicator with a plunger at one end.
  3. Open the foil packet with the clotrimazole 500mg pessary and put it into the tip of the plastic applicator.
  4. While sitting with your legs open or laying down on your back, use your fingers to gently open the entrance to your vagina. Put the applicator tip with the clotrimazole 500mg pessary end inside first. Try to push the applicator into your vagina as far as you can.
  5. Press the plunger at the end of the applicator to place the clotrimazole 500mg pessary inside your vagina where it can get to work.
  6. Take the applicator out of your vagina and throw it away in your bin at home. Do not flush the applicator down the toilet. You only need to put 1 clotrimazole 500mg pessary in on your first day of thrush treatment.
  7. Now you can wash your hands with soap and water, then open the tube of clotrimazole 1% cream.
  8. Squeeze a small amount of clotrimazole 1% cream and spread it over the skin around your vagina. You’ll need to use the cream 2 or 3 times each day for 2 weeks.

After you use a clotrimazole 500mg pessary, you may notice a white, chalky discharge. This is from the breakdown of the clotrimazole 500mg pessary in your vagina. To protect your bedsheets, wear cotton underwear with a panty liner after you put it in.

You should not swallow a clotrimazole 500mg pessary or put clotrimazole 1% cream in your mouth.

If you feel like your thrush is not getting better after a few days or has not completely cleared in 2 weeks, speak to a doctor for advice.
