About Perindopril
How to take Perindopril
Perindopril tablets should be taken in the morning, before breakfast. You should swallow the tablet with water. It is best if you stick to taking Perindopril at the same time everyday. Please make sure you take the right amount, as advised. Do not change the dosage without speaking to your doctor first. You need to avoid food additives and salt substitutes which contain potassium while taking Perindopril.
Ingredients
Every tablet contains the active ingredient Perindopril, depending on the dosage between 2mg and 8mg per tablet. Additional non-active ingredients can include microcrystalline cellulose, lactose and magnesium stearate as well as hydrophobic colloidal silica. The tablets can differ in shape. 2mg tablets may be plain white, round and biconvex, whereas the 4mg tablets may be oblong with a break line in the middle. They are likely to be embossed with “PP” on one and the dosage “4” on the other side. 8mg Perindopril tablets can be round biconvex tablets, again with “PP” on one and the dosage “8” on the other side. Perindopril is produced and marketed by various pharmaceutical companies, so the tablets you are prescribed may not always look the same or have the same name.
Dosage
Which Perindopril dose you are prescribed depends on whether you are taking Perindopril as a standalone treatment or in combination with other blood pressure medication, such as diuretics. The normal starting dose is 4mg per day. After the initial month, your GP will assess whether your blood pressure needs to be lowered further and whether you are suffering any side effects. Your dosage will be adjusted if necessary, to ensure you benefit from the treatment. Elderly people sometimes require a lower Perindopril dose and may be given 2mg to start with. You should always stick to the recommended daily dose, so if you forget to take a tablet just take the next one as usual. Do not take two tablets in one day.

Perindopril is an active ingredient is used to control high blood pressure. It is available in combination with differing ingredients and is also known as Perindopril Arginine, Perindopril tert-butylamine and Perindopril Erbumine. Depending on the chemical composition of your tablets, their name might differ. However, all three types of Perindopril tablets work in the same way, by inhibiting a hormone which causes an increase in your blood pressure. This type of medication is called an ACE inhibitor. Medications of this type also lower blood pressure by reducing the level of fluids and salt in your body, which makes it easier for your heart to pump blood through your body. Perindopril can be taken on its own or is sometimes combined with other hypertension tablets to achieve the best possible result.

Perindopril is not suitable for everyone, which is why it has to be prescribed by a GP. Your GP will need to know as much as possible about your medical history. Like many other medications, Perindopril is not to be taken by kidney and liver disease patients including anyone who has recently had a kidney transplant. If you suffer from heart disease or a narrowing of the heart valves, please ensure your doctor is aware of your condition. Your doctor will also need to know if you suffer from diabetes or any collagen disease. Please ensure you mention any medication you are currently taking, as your doctor will have to check whether it might interact with Perindopril.

Women who are able to conceive should make sure they use reliable contraception while taking Perindopril, because of the possible risks to a developing baby.
If you’re trying for a baby or already pregnant, please stop taking Perindopril and visit your doctor immediately to speak about a new treatment plan for the time of your pregnancy.
Breastfeeding while taking Perindopril is also not recommended. In order to prevent harm to your baby you should not begin taking Perindopril until you have stopped breastfeeding.

Perindopril does not interact with alcohol. However, regular alcohol consumption contributes to hypertension and increases your risk of cardiovascular disease. You should limit your alcohol intake in order to support your high blood pressure therapy.

If you experience palpitations (which means you can feel your heartbeat more than usual), are having trouble breathing or feel like you might faint you need to seek medical help immediately. It is possible that you are experiencing an allergic reaction to Perindopril. This can be dangerous and you may require treatment in a hospital.
