Clenil Modulite is a brown inhaler, known as a preventer inhaler. This inhaler will help to reduce your symptoms and prevent any further attacks or symptoms. It will help you to manage your asthma over time, rather than give you immediate relief from an asthma attack.
Clenil Modulite contains the active ingredient beclomethasone dipropionate, which is otherwise known as an inhaled steroid. Steroids have anti-inflammatory properties which help to reduce the swelling and irritation in the walls of the small air passages of your lungs.
The Clenil inhaler is used for treating symptoms of mild to moderate asthma. If you are asthmatic, this inhaler will allow you to ease your breathing problems and have a better quality of life whilst also reducing the risk of potentially life-threatening attacks.

You may need a Clenil inhaler if you have been diagnosed with asthma and you are suffering from symptoms such as:
- Coughing
- Tight chest
- Wheezing
- Breathlessness
These symptoms can happen regularly and sometimes in response to a trigger such as when asthma is caused by exercise or an allergy.
You should usually use a preventer inhaler like Clenil modulite if you need to use a reliever inhaler regularly. The Clenil inhaler will prevent your symptoms from occurring and also reduce the inflammation and sensitivity in your air passages.
If you feel you need extra help with your asthma symptoms then you should speak to your GP right away. They’ll ask you more about your symptoms and what may be triggering them. Your GP may refer you for some tests in order to give you the most appropriate treatment.

To start using Clenil modulite for your Asthma, you must get a prescription from your GP. You can reorder Clenil modulite from us once you have been using it for at least three months, you’re happy with your treatment, or you have been advised by your doctor to step up your treatment.
Getting your first inhaler – you can get diagnosed with Asthma with various tests including:
- Spirometry tests determine how much air you can hold in your lungs and how fast you can breath out when you breathe into a machine over a set time
- FeNO test detects the inflammation in your lungs by measuring the level of nitric oxide in your breath when breathing into a machine
- Peak flow test determines how well your lungs are working by seeing how fast you can breathe into a hand held machine after taking a deep breath
- Bronchial challenge test detects how your airways respond to asthma triggers after breathing in substances through a machine. This may cause your airways to become narrow and inflamed, resulting in asthma symptoms

To use Clenil Modulite:
- Begin by removing the mouthpiece by holding the lid between your thumb and finger, and gently squeezing it to pull it apart
- If it’s the first time you’re using it, you must test it first by pressing down on the pump at the top of the inhaler and releasing a puff into the air
- Hold the inhaler upright and hold it at the base, underneath the mouthpiece, and breathe out
- Put your lips around the mouthpiece without biting on it
- Breath in through your mouth before pressing down on the pump to release a puff, whilst continuing to breath in slowly and steadily
- While holding your breath, remove your mouth from the mouthpiece and remove your finger from the pump. Continue to hold your breath for a few more seconds before breathing slowly and steadily
- If you need to take another puff, hold the inhaler upright and wait about 30 seconds before repeating the above steps again
- Always replace the mouthpiece cover when you have finished using the inhaler to keep out dust and fluff
Always use your inhaler as prescribed by your doctor. There are four different strengths of the Clenil inhaler. Your doctor will help you decide your starting dose, depending on the severity of your Asthma.
If you use your Clenil inhaler as prescribed by your doctor, you should start to notice the improvements to your symptoms within about two weeks. You should find that you’re able to climb stairs or walk uphill more easily. Taking part in exercise should generally become easier. You should be less sensitive to Asthma triggers such as flu/cold and cigarette smoke because your air passages should be less inflamed. You should also be coughing less at night, allowing you to sleep better.

You may be suffering from an asthma attack if you’re experiencing extremely severe symptoms, like:
- Coughing regularly, very tight chest, and wheezing
- Your breathlessness is making it difficult for you to walk or talk
- You can’t breathe properly and your breathing is getting much faster
- If your blue reliever inhaler isn’t helping and you need to use it every few hours
In such an emergency situation you should:
- Sit upright and try to stay calm
- Take a puff (up to 10 puffs) of your blue reliever inhaler every 30-60 seconds
- If you don’t feel better after taking your reliever inhaler or you feel worse, you must call 999 for an ambulance immediately
Whilst you wait for an ambulance, after 15 minutes take up to 10 puffs of your reliever inhaler again.

You’ll usually need a preventer inhaler such as Clenil Modulite in addition to a reliever inhaler if your asthma is not well controlled and you tend to use the reliever inhaler more than three times a week.
There are also other Asthma inhalers including:
- Reliever inhalers (the blue inhaler) is used to treat the immediate symptoms of an asthma attack and should be kept close by at all times. It contains a bronchodilator called ‘Salbutamol’ which opens up the airways by relaxing the muscles around them, allowing you to breath more easily. Everyone with Asthma is given a reliever inhaler
- Combination inhalers combines two medicines: both a long-acting reliever and a preventer. They’re used to provide both ongoing relief from symptoms and long term prevention of symptoms. This inhaler is usually prescribed when Asthma symptoms are very difficult to manage with other medications
- Long-acting reliever inhalers are prescribed as additional treatment to make breathing easier and open up the air passages in your lungs. You’ll use this alongside a steroid preventer inhaler and should also keep a fast acting reliever inhaler nearby for use in asthma attacks
We also offer other inhalers in addition to Clenil Modulite including:
- Ventolin inhalers
- Salbutamol inhalers
- Symbicort inhalers
